It is a Single-player Business Simulation game, in which the ultimate objectives of the player are creating railroad company, constructing lots of stations, purchasing lots of trains, etc.

The player acts as the railway entrepreneur, who may start his companies in any of four geographical locales, including the Northeast United States and the Western United States. The game offers full freedom to the player to manage each and everything to run his company.

The player can start his company with one million dollars in capital half equity and half loan which the player must return to progress. Railroad Tycoon allows the player to create four different kinds of tracks such as Depot, Station, Signal Tower, and Terminal.

Once the player builds his station, it allows him to create his first train at any engine shop. Railroad Tycoon features fantastic game mechanics and controls.
